Former Vice President and 2020 contender Joe Biden got into a scuffle about guns with an auto plant worker in Detroit during a Michigan campaign stop.

“You are actively trying to diminish our Second Amendment right and take away our guns,” the man said, confronting Biden.

“You’re full of sh-t,” the former vice president replied. “I support the Second Amendment,” he said, while likening owning semi-automatic weapons to yelling fire in a crowded theatre, implying the confiscation of certain guns is within the government’s power. “Just like if you yell fire, that’s not free speech,” Biden said.

The man pushed back, “Well, when you were with Beto [O’Rourke] when you said you were going to take our guns —”

“I did not say that,” Biden responded, clarifying that the government would only “take your AR-14s.” He probably meant to reference the popular semi-automatic rifle AR-15, which the National Rifle Association has deemed the “most popular class of rifles in America.”

The videos of the exchange appear to show Biden telling the man he would “slap” him and calling him a “horse’s -ss.”

“Are you able to own a machine gun under the law?” Biden asked.

“No, machine guns are illegal,” the man replied.

“That’s right!” Biden yelled. “So are AR-15s illegal.”

“How is that a machine gun? It’s a semi-automatic,” the man said, to which the former vice president replied, “Do you need 100 rounds?”

As the 2020 field has narrowed to only two serious Democratic contenders, Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Democratic presidential contenders have thrown their support behind the former vice president. March 2, the night before Super Tuesday, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke formally endorsed Biden. During a Democratic presidential debate in September, then-contender O’Rourke said, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

“I want to make something clear,” Biden said, upon receiving O’Rourke’s endorsement last week. “I’m going to guarantee this is not the last you’ve seen of this guy — you’re going to take care of the gun problem with me. You’re going to be the one who leads this effort. I’m counting on you. I’m counting on you. We need you badly — the state needs you, the country needs you, you’re the best.”
